A Longitudinal Study on the Use of Medical Services

Abstract
For successful life in later years, health is of the most importance and more medical services are estimated to be required. In the circumstance, the purpose of this study is to find the factors of medical services and help elderly persons live their healthy life. This study made use of Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) Data so as to examine the correlations between variables of 2,523 persons aged more than 65, and had a longitudinal analysis through GEE. The study results are presented as follows: First, the study subjects tended to use more outpatient medical service if they were female, didn't live together with their children, had face-to-face relationship with their friendly persons, joined social activities in case of predisposing factor; if they had high family incomes and lived in urban areas in case of enable factor; if they subjectively and negatively perceived their health conditions, had chronical diseases, and had less inconvenience of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in case of need factor. Secondly, they tended to use more hospitalization medical service if they were a spouse in case of predisposing factor; if they subjectively and negatively perceived their health conditions, had multiple chronic diseases, and had disabilities in case of need factor. Based on the study results, the policy on the medical service use of the elderly and practical implication were discussed.
